Form Commenting FAQ and Overview

Form commenting allows admin and form respondents to comment, reply, and follow the conversation on a particular form response. Commenting is enabled on a per form basis.

In this article you, will learn how to enable form comments, leave comments, and subscribe to comments on a specific submission.

Form Commenting FAQ

1. Which forms allow commenting?

Form commenting is available on:

✅ Forms with an approval workflow. Learn how to set up an approval flow.

Form commenting is not available on:

❌ Forms with no approval workflow.

❌ Forms with a "notify" step but no "approve" step.

2. Is commenting enabled by default?

No, commenting must be turned on when creating or editing a form.

4. Who can access form comments?

5. How are comments displayed?

      • Comments appear in reverse chronological order, with the latest comment at the top.
      • Comment replies appear in chronological order, with the first reply at the top.

 

Enable Form Commenting

Turn on commenting during the creation or editing of an Involve form. If you're creating a brand new form, start on step 3.

1. Find your form on the Forms page of the admin dashboard.

2. Click the three stacked dots and select "Edit."

3. Select "Settings."

4. Select "Responses."

5. Check the box for "Enable Form Comments."

6. Collapse your editor (Screenshot 2025-03-13 at 2.10.28 PM.png) and click "Save" to apply your changes. 

 

Commenting on a Form

View or Leave a Comment

Comments are visible on form responses

1. Find your form on the Forms page in the admin dashboard and click on the title.

2. Select "COMMENTS."

3. Type your comment and submit.

Subscribe to New Comments

Check "Notify me of new comments and replies" to subscribe to new comments left on the form submission. You'll receive an email whenever someone leaves a comment or reply.

 

Reply to Comments

Click the arrow (Screenshot 2025-03-06 at 1.13.09 PM.png) under the comment to expand the window and reply.

Edit or Delete Comments

Use the pencil icon to edit a comment and the trashcan icon to delete it.

      • Form respondents can only edit or delete their own comments. 
      • Admins can delete any comment. Deleted comments will be replaced with "An admin deleted this comment" in the comment thread.
