Modern Campus Involve offers several ways to use event information outside of Involve. Choose the option based on the system you want to connect and how much customization you need.

Webcal/iCal Feed
Use the Webcal/iCal feed when another calendar system or website component can subscribe directly to a calendar URL.
This is the best option for a standard, low-maintenance calendar subscription.

Embedded Calendar
Use the embedded calendar when you want to place a pre-built Involve calendar directly on a webpage without building a custom calendar integration.
This option requires less development but provides less control over filtering, layout, and behavior.

Events API
Use the Events API when a developer needs structured event data to build a custom integration or application.
This is the best option for:
- Custom websites and portals
- Filtering events by tags, organizations, or other event fields
- Transforming event data into another format
- Building custom workflows or integrations
The API returns JSON event data. Your development team is responsible for filtering, transforming, displaying, hosting, and maintaining the integration.

Important Differences
These are separate integration options:
- Webcal/iCal: A calendar subscription feed.
- Embedded Calendar: A pre-built calendar for webpages.
- Events API: Structured JSON data for developers.
Capabilities available in the Events API are not automatically available in the Webcal/iCal feed or embedded calendar. For example, filtering JSON event data by tag does not mean the native Webcal/iCal feed supports tag filtering.
RSS/XML Feeds
Involve does not currently provide an RSS/XML event feed. Webcal/iCal and JSON API feeds are not interchangeable with RSS/XML.
If your destination requires RSS/XML, a separate conversion or integration service may be required.
Before Choosing an Integration
Confirm:
- What system will consume the event data?
- Does it support Webcal/iCal, an embedded calendar, JSON, or RSS/XML?
- Do you need to filter or transform events?
- Who will build and maintain custom integration code?
- Do you need a standard calendar subscription or a fully customized experience?
